Films and Things- "The Writer's Block"

So with further research on cringe comedy I discovered this awesome website tilted films and things; https://natashaharmeryear1.wordpress.com/2014/10/19/cringe/. On this website was a writer who writes in this little book tilted "Writer's Block". One of her journal entries told the story of her first day on the job and the funny but absolutely terrifying thing that caused her termination the very same day. The story is absolutely entertaining to read and stands as a perfect example for cringe comedy being that it combines humor with uncomfortable embarrassment. The journal entry is short and easy to read. Click on the link below and read the story!

Kevin Hart- Laugh at My Pain

Just recently I decided to watch one of my favorite comedians Kevin Hart stand up comedies. On September 9th, 2011, Kevin Hart released his first stand up comedy films tilted "Laugh at My Pain". This stand up comedy in particular took a play on the comedians life and a couple of hardships. To bring light to some of his obstacles, Kevin Hart choice to mention the death of his mother and exactly how her funeral played out. To a surprise Kevin Hart's mother funeral had many twist and turns and instead of me writing out what happened, take a look at the video below in this blog. This is cringe comedy at it's best.

Cringe Comdey in TV Shows

For this weeks post I wanted to research how actors and actresses take on the comedic cringe role within tv shows and movies. I researched what role they partake in and how they are able to withhold their character. The website, allthetrophies.oraine.org gives a outline of what cringe comedy is through tv.

"A big trend in modern TV comedy: shows where the humor mostly comes from placing characters in the most embarrassing situations possible, or having them say the most awkward or offensive thing possible at all times. Often uses documentary feel to heighten the naturalism and increase the cringe, or has actors in character interacting with an unsuspecting public. Comedy you have to watch through the gaps between your fingers."

Cringe Comdey- The Office

Have you ever wondered if the shows that you watch today include Cringe Comedy? Well I think I just might have the answer to that. I was researching cringe comedy acts, and instead of finding a comedy act, I discovered an article on a tv shows that I'm pretty sure that everyone is familiar with. The article is titled "Discomfort Zone: 10 Great Cringe Comedies."

The article mentioned one show in particular, titled, NBC's The Office. The article says and I quote, "When NBC’s The Office goes off the air on May 16, it’ll mark the end of the signature example of the cringe comedy genre. And yet, many viewers may not even recognize that such a genre exists."

Cringe comedy is all about the painful laughs derived from the awkwardness of social interaction and around people’s lack of self-awareness. Its building block is the painful silence that hangs in the air after a thoughtless remark. That’s why cringe comedy often uses single-camera (documentary or movie-style shooting) and no laugh track, instead of the more theatrical three-camera, live-audience setup that’s been the sitcom standard since I Love Lucy. Cringe comedy often borrows the techniques of reality TV – the relentlessly tracking camera, the confessional asides – to find humor in the difference between a character’s self-image and the way he or she actually comes off to other people. That kind of clinical scrutiny is funny but merciless – that’s where the “cringe” comes from.

So there you have it folks, cringe comedy can be seen in the shows that we watch today. Below is a clip of a show from The office.

Cringe Comedy- Louis C.K. stand up

Hey guys!!, thanks for visiting my blog. As you can see, my second genre of focus is on Cringe Comedy. In general, I love to attend stand up comedy shows or watching comedians on TV. I find it important and furthermore refreshing to laugh every now and then. I think that people take themselves too serious sometimes and seriously need to loosen up. I have never written a comedy story yet alone a "cringe comedy" story. I wanted to start my research off by looking at a few stand up comedy sets. During my research I stumbled upon comedian Louis C.K. Louis C.K. is a Mexican-American comedian. After taking a look at one of his famously stand up sets, I concluded that much of cringe comedy involves vulgar comments about "not so funny" topics. Cringe comedy also test the waters, and by this I mean, it allows for comedians to go for it with out second thoughts.

Take a look at the link below at Louis C.K. stand up! Enjoy!
